How to Word Your Wedding Invitations & Details Cards: From Black-tie to Relaxed Garden Party
Your guide to nail the wording in your wedding invitation suite.
When it comes to wedding invitations, it’s not always the colours or paper choices that has couples stumped - it’s what to actually say. Depending on the theme of your wedding, the wording can vary greatly.
There is no right or wrong - but the way you word your invitations can set the tone for your event. Here’s a breakdown of wedding invitation wording styles, and what to say for each.
Invitations can be broken down into three parts: 1. the invite, 2. when and where, and 3. finishing touches.
Note - parents and families can be addressed in the invite if they are hosting or financially contributing, or as a sign of respect in some cultures.

Final thoughts
Your details cards could also include: a map to the venue, a timeline or program of the day, and/or a QR code to your wedding website or gift registry. You don’t need to include everything on one card, that’s what details cards are for, you can have multiple cards.
That’s it! Don’t stress over sounding “perfect”. The most beautiful invitations reflect the couple they’re for. Choose a wording style that feels aligned to you, and let the rest fall into place. If you’re unsure, start with semi-formal, it works for nearly every style of event.
